Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens is an American musician and singer, better than her stage name, Queen Latifah. in film, music and on television, Queen Latifah has received 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award, six more Grammy nods and nominations for her Emmy Award. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, as well as Rita who was a educator of Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah was age of ten. Latifah was born into the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah refers to an Arabic word which means "delicate and gentle". Her aunt granted it to her when she was eight. Latifah is a tall 5'10 girl who was in the basketball team of her high school squad. In her high school's play Latifah sang "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah started to beatbox for Ladies Fresh. Latifah became part of the Flavor Unit in its original model, consisting of a team of MCs led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King recorded a rendition of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. The song was recorded and given to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music signed Latifah following her hearing of the song. She released her first single, Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
